background

This is nothing special, well to you anyway. I'm not a scrapbook type, or a baby book writer, or even a picture printer. I'm terrible at recording memories. This blog is my attempt at holding on to some of my life as a Christian, a wife, and a homeschooling Mom of 5. I am a country girl that lived in a big city for 14 years, and moved to the Deep South for quiet, quaint, small town living.

Boy of many hats

Ok, just one hat.
A Cowboy hat to be exact.
And today it is paired with a knight's javelin,
and a Pirate sweatshirt
(because it can get chilly on the high seas).

Water's skin

Did you know that the surface of water has some of the same properties of skin?  Well, I'm sure we all did know it, but I had no idea that would be anything that needs to be taught, or that water's "skin" would be a good analogy that kids would understand.  This is when I love a good curriculum.

We added quarters to a full cup of water to watch the "skin" stretch above the lip of the cup.
We added a paperclip to sit in the "skin."  The same way water bugs skim the surface of water.  Once we added dish soap to make the "skin" stretchy, the paperclip fell in.  The kids thought I was a magician.  I thought it was pretty cool myself.

Fall and Go Boom

I'm actually surprised.  Virginia is more of a tuck and roll kind of girl.  She is used to falling and getting back up again so she doesn't miss a thing. This time our monkey fell just right.  She has a sub-dislocation that looks worse than it really is.

And we are now professionals at this sort of thing.
Almost 3 years earlier Liv did the same thing!
I'm thinking George will hold out for something big.
Any bets on when Maggie will get a cast?

Our typical school day lately

This is the the norm these days.
The big kids have their books spread out everywhere,
Maggie chowing down on a snack to keep her busy,
and Virginia napping to give us all a little peace.

Yes, I know that sounds bad, but that busy little girl is too much to handle when I'm trying to focus on teaching.  So now our school day doesn't usually begin until after lunch during Ginnie's nap time.  It is a little weird feeling, but it is getting things done.

I just hope the big kids will be able to get back into school first thing when Ginnie starts Pre-school in the Fall.  We hope to finalize the details of her enrollment to Calvary Lutheran School this week.  We loooooove the Pre-school and Pre-K teachers there.  (We've never experienced the higher grade teachers to have a professional opinion)  I think Ginnie will love it too.

Lazy lunch

I made the melon filled with jello the day before, so all I did was cut and serve.
Guess what?
The kids didn't like the jello.
Weirdos.

It's time!

Time to teach this kid to stop talking when I say "Say Chesse!"
